Was Donald Glover Supposed to Play Spider Man?

With all the Spider Man movies out, it’s really hard to keep up. In the most recent series, Tom Holland plays the role of our friendly neighborhood superhero. But did you know there was actually a campaign for Donald Glover to play the part before?

Back in 2010 a social media campaign to get Donald Glover to play the role of Spider Man went viral. Glover himself joined the campaign too. Unfortunately, Sony called Andrew Garfield for the role instead.

Who is Donald Glover?

Donald McKinley Glover Jr. or better known as Donald Glover was born on September 25, 1983 at the Edwards Air Force Base in California. He attended the Lakeside High School and graduated from the New York University with a degree in Dramatic Writing. (Source: Blues and Soul)

Who is Miles Morales?

Miles Morales was the half Latino half African American persona of Spider Man in another universe. He was first created in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.

His character first appeared in the Ultimate Fallout comic book in August 2011 after the death of Peter Parker in the series. (Source: Inside Pulse)

The character of Miles Morales was not the lead in the animated series Ultimate Spider Man but he was later on added to the main cast. Does Donald Glover’s Appearance in Spider Man: Homecoming Mean Anything?

Donald Glover’s cameo in the movie was specifically designed for the fans. Jon Watts, the director of the film said: “It was fun to come up with those ideas and talk to Donald about it. You never know what’s going to go where in a movie like this.”

There have been many speculations about Donald Glover’s appearance in the said movie. In one of his scenes, he would reference a certain nephew which lead to the assumption that Miles Morales will be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe very soon. Watch the scene here.
