Meet a fan campaign to get Donald Glover the lead in “Amazing Spider-Man.” It failed, but his character on Community wore Spidey PJs as a nod. That episode inspired a Marvel writer to create Miles Morales, the first Black Spider-Man. Glover went on to play Miles’ uncle in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

Miles Morales

Stuff I wish I could’ve fit in the title:

    – The writer was Brian Michael Bendis.
    – He saw [Donald Glover in the costume](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fpbs.twimg.com%2Fmedia%2FCk8PQRAWEAAgUnu.jpg&f=1&nofb=1) and thought “I would like to read that book.”
    – Miles Morales is actually mixed Black & Puerto Rican (Glover is not)
    – Glover’s character, Aaron ~~Morales~~ Davis, is also [The Prowler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prowler_(Marvel_Comics\)). He doesn’t do much in *Spider-Man: Homecoming* but in the comics he’s a villain (and partially responsible for Miles getting super-powers)
    – Glover also voiced Miles himself in some episodes of the animated show [*Ultimate Spider-Man*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Spider-Man_(TV_series\))
    – There’s an easter egg referencing all this in *Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse*: when Miles visits his uncle Aaron’s apartment, [on the TV is a re-creation of the scene in *Community*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmilcxL-29A) with Donald Glover in his Spidey PJs

I actually didn’t realize Miles Morales was that recent! I assumed he was created in the 80s/90s and just didn’t get popular until now

Donald Glover hijacked the character of Troy.

Watch the first 3 episodes of Community. Troy is a self-obsessed jock. A physcial powerhouse who is condescending and pretentious.

Then boom, Donald Glover made Troy Donald Glover. A cute, sensetive theater kid obsessed with pop culture references.

Glover’s character in the MCU was Aaron Davis, the prowler.
The prowler (still Aaron Davis) in “into the spider verse” was Mile’s Morales’s uncle who was voiced by Mahershala Ali.

Wait a minute, miles morales is that new? Really? I thought he’d been created decades ago

Man the comics leading up to the end of Ultimate Spider-Man were so good. The Death of Peter Parker is some of the best Spider-Man ever written.
