Everyone knows the 1990s were hands-down the best time to be a kid because it had some of the most creative cartoons and kids’ shows, especially when it came to after-school shows. From Rugrats to Boy Meets World and many of the TV series listed here have transcended the nostalgia of the ’90s era and remain timeless television classics even as adults. But did you ever wonder why 90’s kid’s shows always had an educational message? 

The introduction of the 1991 “Children’s Television Act,” which required kids’ TV programs to serve children’s educational and informational needs, is why many 90s cartoons included educational messages.
