Who is Tiger Woods?
Tiger Woods, born Eldrick Tont Woods on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, was the only child of an African American Army officer father and a Thai mother. When Woods was a child, his father started calling him Tiger after a fellow soldier and friend with the same name.
Woods began playing golf as a child. Earl, his father, was his teacher and mentor. Woods had become an expert at the game by eight, even performing on television shows such as Good Morning America.

Tiger Woods’ Daughter and His Golfing Career
On June 18, 2007, his wife gave birth to the couple’s first child, Sam Alexis Woods. In August 2007, he won the World Golf Championship and the PGA Championship after taking time off to welcome his daughter.
Woods’ winning streak continued the following month when he won the BMW and Tour Championship. He was named Player of the Year by the other PGA Tour players and received his eighth Arnold Palmer Award for being the top money earner.
Woods won the U.S. Open. On June 16, 2008, he won a 19-hole playoff after overcoming intermittent pain in his left knee caused by arthroscopic surgery on April 15. Woods hit a par 4 on the first and only sudden death hole, while American Rocco Mediate, 45, made a bogey.
The sudden death match at Torrey Pines in San Diego came after an 18-hole playoff in which both players finished at par. After the first ten holes of that playoff, Woods led Mediate by three shots. Mediate took the lead after birdieing three of the following five holes. However, Woods birdied the final hole while Mediate shot par, forcing a sudden death playoff.
