Robin McLaurin Williams was born on July 21, 1951, and passed on August 11, 2014. He was an actor and stand-up comedian who was regarded as one of the best comedians of all time. His talent in improv and the wide range of characters he created on the spur of the moment truly brought him on the map. He has portrayed several personalities on film, in both dramas and comedies too. But did you know, at the height of his success, he gave back to the community by putting up a scholarship?

Robin Williams endowed a scholarship at his alma mater, Juilliard, that awarded a full-ride scholarship every two years. One of those honored was future Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, who became the first person in her family to attend college.

Jessica Chastain Expressed her Gratitude for the Robert Williams Scholarship

Jessica Chastain, a two-time Oscar nominee, credits the late Robin Williams with making it possible for her to study acting at Juilliard.

I am the first member of my family to attend college. We didn’t have much money, and Juilliard is an expensive school. Robin Williams is a very generous Juilliard alumnus who awards a scholarship every two years to a student that covers all expenses, and I was fortunate enough to receive it. I’m still waiting to meet him. Robin Williams had an impact on my life. He was a wonderful actor as well as a generous person. He made it possible for me to graduate from college by providing a scholarship. His generous spirit will always inspire me to help others as he helped me. He will be remembered for the rest of his life.
