Who Won Against Dolly Parton at Her Own Look-Alike Contest?

Dolly Rebecca Parton is a country music singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman best known for her work in the music industry. Following her sensation as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I’m Dolly, which led to success throughout the rest of the 1960s. But did you know she entered her own look-alike contest and lost?

Dolly Parton, the famous country singer, decided to enter a drag queen celebrity impersonator contest in Los Angeles without revealing her true identity. Unfortunately, she lost to a man.

Who is Dolly Parton?

Dolly Parton, a country music icon and actress, rose to prominence with country star Porter Wagoner before embarking on a solo career that included hit songs such as Joshua, Jolene, The Bargain Store, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again, 9 to 5, and Islands in the Stream, among many others.

Parton was born in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, on January 19, 1946. She grew up in a low-income family in rural Appalachia and was the eldest of twelve children. Money was always an issue in her family and they lived modestly as she was growing up. Her first musical influences were family members, including her mother, who sang and played the guitar. She also learned about music at a young age while performing in church.

Parton received her first guitar from a family member and quickly began writing her songs. She began performing professionally at the age of ten, appearing on local television and radio shows in Knoxville. By the time she turned thirteen, Parton made her Grand Ole Opry debut. She decided to pursue a career in music and moved to Nashville right after graduating from high school.

Parton’s mainstream success peaked in the 1980s. She also co-starred with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in the 1980 smash hit comedy 9 to 5, where she made her film debut. Parton also contributed to the soundtrack of the film.

The title song, which features one of the most memorable opening lines in popular music history, was another No. 1 hit for Parton on both the pop and country charts, earning her an Academy Award nomination.  (Source: Your Cabin)

Where is the Dolly Parton Theme Park?

The Dolly Parton Theme Park is considered one of the world’s premier theme parks. It is officially called the Dolly Parton’s Dollywood. The theme park features rip-roaring rides, delectable fare, and stellar entertainment. All of which is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Quirky as it may seem, but Parton won’t ride the rides at Dollywood. It’s not because the rides are unsafe or she doesn’t enjoy them; she’s just terrified of roller coasters and suffers from motion sickness. She claimed to have gotten sick on the school bus as a child.  (Source: Your Cabin)

Who is Her Inspiration for Her Hit Song Jolene?

Practically everyone knows Parton’s hit song Jolene, but do you know what inspired it? The song was inspired by a redheaded bank teller who used to flirt with Parton’s husband, Carl Dean. She claimed he enjoyed going to the bank because the woman was so attentive to him, and it became a running gag between the couple, that she would openly make fun of him for it.

You’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t think we have that kind of money.
