What Happened to Jessica Simpson’s Edible Cosmetic Line?

Jessica Ann Johnson is a singer, actress, businesswoman, and fashion designer from the United States. She rose to prominence after singing in church choirs. Sweet Kisses, her debut studio album released in 1999, sold two million copies in the United States and spawned the commercial success of the single I Wanna Love You Forever. Simpson dabbled in various lines of businesses, including fashion and cosmetics. But did her edible cosmetic line ever succeed?

Jessica Simpson sold a line of edible makeup, perfume, and body wash discontinued after several lawsuits. Customers claimed the Butterscotch Toffee Body Wash caused yeast infections and the Belly Button Love Potion attracted bees.

Edible Cosmetics and Lawsuits?

Jessica Simpson, a singer, actress, reality star, fashion designer, culinary connoisseur, and cultural icon, launched the Dessert Beauty by Jessica Simpson. It was a line of edible cosmetics, skincare, and perfumes, that was released in April 2004. Dessert Beauty was marketed in a hyper-sexualized method more suited to flyers in a telephone booth, despite the target audience being young girls.

Dessert girls are full of sweetness and desire, and they don’t mind getting their hair messed up in the name of seduction. Taste is desired by sexy girls.

The brand was quite controversial that even the advertisements were obviously not intended for young girls. To promote Dessert Beauty, Simpson and her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, were licking each other all over town.

Very sensual products, which I was fortunate enough to be able to taste test.

As much as it seemed like a good idea, the reviews were not as enticing. One customer developed a yeast infection after using the Butterscotch Toffee Body Wash. Another product called the Deliciously Kissable Belly Button Love Potion Fragrance attracted bees that the client who used it was literally running away from them. (Source: Daze Digital)

How Did Jessica Simpson Rise to Fame?

Jessica Simpson is a well-known and respected singer and businesswoman. Jessica’s world has grown beyond music and into fashion. She began singing gospel and was a member of the church choir. On July 10, 1980, Simpson was born in Abilene, Texas. That is also where she grew up. Her father, Joseph Simpson was a youth minister and a psychologist.

Simpson auditioned as one of 30,000 competitors for a spot in Disney’s Micky Mouse Club when she was 12 years old in 1992. She progressed to the final round after completing the regional auditions in Dallas. She lost in the finals to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

Jessica and her minister father went on the preaching circuits, with him preaching and Jessica singing and marketing her CDs after the services. As a result, she became the opening act for artists such as CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin, and God’s Property.

Her unique voice and intriguing pop sound piqued the interest of Tommy Mottola, a Columbia Records executive, and he signed her right away.
Jessica sang the theme song Did You Ever Love Somebody? for the popular TV show Dawson’s Creek in 1998. By 1999, with her debut album Sweet Kisses, she wowed the music scene by selling over 2 million copies.

I’m such a sucker for big sappy songs. I’m a big romantic and I love love. I love singing about it and listening to songs about it.
