Celine Dion Said She Got Along Better with Older Children and Adults as a Child. She Preferred Not Going to School Because of Bullying. Her Brother Introduced Her to Rene Angélil When She was 12.

Celine Dion is well-known worldwide, and when she recorded the title track for the soundtrack to the animated Disney hit film Beauty and the Beast, she broke into the massive American market. The song quickly rose to the top of the charts, earning an Academy Award and a Grammy. But did you know why Celine Dion got along with older children and adults growing up?

Celine Dion once stated that as a child, she preferred not to attend school due to bullying; her brother would eventually introduce 12-year-old Celine to 38-year-old Rene, who would become her career manager and eventual husband.

Celine Dion Marrying Her Manager

René Angélil was Celine Dion’s husband and manager. She was the best-selling Canadian musical artist of all time and one of the most popular singers in the world, selling over 200 million albums during her 35-year career.

There is a significant age difference here. Celine Dion was 47 when her husband died, so their age difference was approximately 26 years. This is especially noticeable when they talk about their early years together

Dion and her manager René Angélil got engaged in 1991 but kept their relationship private at first; the singer eventually revealed the news in the liner notes of her best-selling 1994 album, The Color of My Love. Dion and Angelil, then 26 and 52, married later that year in a lavish ceremony at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica.

The ceremony of my dreams, what I had always hoped for. It was magic.

After years of trying, Dion and Angélil decided to use in-vitro fertilization in 2000. Angélil died of cancer in 2016, and his public funeral was held at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica.

Their son René-Charles Angélil was born the following January, and Angélil announced Dion was expecting twins in 2010. Eddy and Nelson are fraternal twins named after French songwriter Eddy Marnay and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela. (Source: Cheat Sheet

Celine Dion and the Titanic

The theme song for Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast, Dion, recorded with Peabo Bryson, gave her one of her first big hits and her first Grammy in 1991. Her 1995 album D’eux became one of the most successful French-language albums.

Her international career took off after the release of the 1997 James Cameron blockbuster Titanic. The theme song, My Heart Will Go On, was performed by Dion and became her signature song, winning an Oscar for best original song, sweeping the Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and becoming one of the best-selling music singles of all time.

As popular as My Heart Will Go On would become, Dion, admits that she didn’t like the song the first time she heard it and was concerned about recording yet another soundtrack theme. Cameron was also opposed to ending his film with a pop song.

Composer James Horner, who later died in a plane crash, and lyricist Will Jennings collaborated on the song, and Dion recorded the vocals in a single take.

When I recorded it, I didn’t think about the movie, I didn’t think about radio, I thought, ‘Sing the song, then get the heck out of there.
