Two years later, David Blaine: Magic Man was released. Blaine’s first endurance stunt was in 1999, and his second was “Frozen in Time,” in which he was frozen into a block of ice for 72 hours.
David Blaine’s Early Life
David Blaine was born on April 4, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, to a single mother. As the curious 4-year-old waited for a subway train, Blaine was introduced to magic by a street performer. Blaine’s interest in magic was not his only one, and he went on to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse drama school and appear in several TV commercials and soap operas. During this time, Blaine’s ability to levitate off the ground became apparent, and at the urging of his physician, he underwent a thorough examination.

Blaine’s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was 21 and died in 1994. Despite his grief, he continued to perform and make a name for himself at celebrity events by performing magic tricks for celebrities such as Mike Tyson, Al Pacino, and David Geffen.
Blaine recorded the performance and sent it to ABC, where the response was overwhelming, and an interview was quickly requested. In 1997, his first special, David Blaine: Street Magic, was a rating success. Two years later, David Blaine: Magic Man was released.
The Endurance Stunt
Blaine’s first endurance stunt was submerging himself in 4,000 pounds of water for over a week in 1999. In 2000, he released “Frozen in Time,” in which he was frozen in ice for 72 hours. Two years later, in “Vertigo,” he stood for 35 hours on a 100-foot pillar.
Unfortunately, during 2003’s “Above the Below,” which involved Blaine living in a glass box suspended by the River Thames in London for 44 days without food, there were more skeptics than supporters. The stunt received widespread media attention, and thousands gathered near Tower Bridge to witness his release.
His “human aquarium” stunt in New York in 2006 involved submerging himself in a water-filled sphere for seven days while receiving air and food through tubes. In a dramatic finale, he failed to break the world record for holding his breath under water while escaping heavy chains.
