Canada’s Walk of Fame is a series of maple leaf-like stars that are embedded in the sidewalks of Toronto, and it features the accomplishments of different renowned accomplished professionals in their respective fields. But who was the first American to get a spot on Canada’s Walk of Fame?

Brendan Fraser was the first American-born actor to be inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in March 2006. He became famous for his works in The Mummy series and George of the Jungle.

Who is Brendan Fraser?

Brendan James Fraser was born to Canadian parents in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 3, 1968. He was the fourth born and the youngest among his siblings. His father was a dual American-Canadian citizen and worked as a tourism executive. Their family often relocated because of his father’s field of work.

Fraser attended Canada College Preparatory School in Toronto, Canada, where he graduated in 1987 and returned to the US for College. Acting started to be appealing to the young Fraser after visiting London during a family holiday in his childhood, watching a show in the West End theater district. He began performing in Seattle as a young teenager, working with the Laughing Horse Summer Theater.

Fraser first appeared in Dogfight in 1991. He only had a small stint as an actor. After the said film, his career as an actor started taking off and was soon followed by more films like Encino Man, a 1992 comedy film. Fraser played one of the leading roles as Link and was nominated as Most Promising Actor in the 1993 Chicago Film Critics Association awards. It was the same year he appeared in the film School Ties.

He alleged that he was sexually assaulted by one of the former presidents of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, HFPA, at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2003, which led to his depression.
