LMFAO is an uncle-nephew duo that rose to fame with their hit single Party Rock Anthem. Yes, even with their 11-year gap, they were able to find common ground in music. They are also directly related to the founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy.
Who is LMFAO?
LMFAO is an American electronic dance music duo made up of the uncle-nephew RedFoo and SkyBlue. RedFoo, the uncle is the son of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr., music definitely runs through their blood.
The duo started in 2006 and began topping the charts by 2011. They sold over 9.7 million copies worldwide at the height of their career. By September 2012, the duo announced their indefinite hiatus from the music scene.
Our goal was, ‘We gotta get to No. 1 so when we were mixing this song, we spent about two weeks. And it was, ‘What’s gonna capture the world? What’s gonna be a little different?’ But I still feel slightly surprised.

Stephan Kendal Gordy, more commonly known as RedFoo is the son of Berry Gordy Jr. He was born on September 3, 1975 and grew up in California.
What you might not know is that aside from music, RedFoo was also a tennis player. He attempted to qualify for the 2013 US Open as a wild card entry.
Today, he’s stepped out from the limelight but still continues to work on songs and beats.

Why Did They Call Themselves LMFAO?
If you have been on the internet long enough, you would know that LMFAO is internet slang for Laughing My F*cking Ass Off. The duo originally wanted to be called Sexy Dudes. But they were not so sure about the decision when their friends reacted negatively to the name.
They preceded to ask advise from Skyer’s grandmother, Stefan’s Mother.
We were on instant messenger, and we asked her, ‘What do you think of our new name, Sexy Dudes?’ she simply replied, ‘LMFAO. Are you serious?’ and the rest was history.

Why Did LMFAO Go On Hiatus?
SkyBlu revealed that the true reason for the break up stems from his back injury and his uncle keeping him out of the loop.
SkyBlu injured his back in a big arena show in 2011. RedFoo continued the tour without even thinking about Sky’s situation or how it would affect him. RedFoo also decided to declare the hiatus without Sky’s knowledge.
As someone who really cared, loved and had your back this really hurt. I mean, you’re my uncle! My blood! You even kept touring as LMFAO and made a lot of money doing it. You never once called me to ask me how I was recovering, you just kept shuffling every day without me. I really loved you, I looked up to you man, but the more successful we got, the more you wanted control.
